Space Observation Radar TIRA: High-precision target tracking and high-resolution imaging of space objects
With the Tracking and Imaging Radar TIRA, the Fraunhofer FHR has at its disposal a space observation system whose performance is unique in Europe. This system combines a highly dynamic 34-m antenna with a high-precision tracking radar in the L-band and a high-resolution imaging radar in the Ku-band.
In addition to orbit determination and damage analysis, typical tasks include the identification and technical analysis of satellites. This is made possible by the radar images generated by the imaging radar, which are characterized by a high radiometric and spatial resolution.
