In this video, I continue discussion from the previous video [ Ссылка ] about 5G air interface.
Flexible numerology in 5G physical layer is quickly explained and how the different subcarrier spacings in OFDM can support various 5G scenarios such as eMBB, URLLC, and IoT.
Virtual RAN (vRAN) is then discussed in the context of RAN architecture evolution including the benefits and challenges of centralized baseband processing at different levels.
The difference between vRAN and open RAN (O-RAN) is also discussed in terms of open interfaces between CU, DU, and RU.
Opportunities for small startups to build software of specific virtualized components in O-RAN environments are introduced. Moving then to the RAN intelligent controller (RIC) which can be used to build different apps related, e.g., to radio optimization, interference coordination, scheduling, etc., with a potential to include AI algorithms. This is another area where startups can consider developing such applications on top of commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware servers.
