**THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN CONSIGNED TO A HEMMINGS ONLINE AUCTION. ONCE THE AUCTION START AND END DATES ARE ASSIGNED IT WILL BE UPDATED HERE.**
The original 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback “Bullitt” just sold at Mecum in January 2020 for $3,400,000.00!
This awesome 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback Custom “Bullitt” is a tribute of the famous car driven by Steve McQueen in the movie “Bullitt”. Unlike many “Bullitt” tributes this car was originally Dark Moss Green with a black interior from the factory. It was completely restored to show quality throughout and is a blast to drive. Here’s your ticket, “You’re going to Hollywood”!
As the Marti Auto Works “Deluxe Mart Report” indicates this Mustang was built at the San Jose factory as a 1967 Ford Mustang 2-door Fastback with a 289-2V V-8 engine. It was Dark Moss Green with Black vinyl standard bucket seats. It had a 3-speed manual transmission and 2.79 conventional rear axle. It was equipped with the following features: White paint stripes, tinted glass, F70-14 Wide Oval white sidewall nylon tires, electric clock and AM radio. It was scheduled for build on December 7th, 1966 but was actually built on December 1st, 1966. Oklahoma City was the DSO (District Sales Office). It was retailed at Geo Walker Ford, INC located in Des Moines, IA. It retains the original VIN stamp on the driver’s side top of inner fender. The Marti Auto Works “Deluxe Mart Report” is included.
The exterior of this Mustang is in absolutely beautiful condition. The classic styling is so recognizable specially being a “Bullitt” tribute. The body is very straight and it has great gaps throughout.
The interior of this Mustang is also in absolutely beautiful condition. It was restored in the original black color trim. The “Bullitt” was Green with black interior. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced such as the headliner, sun visors, dash pad, dash, dash hardware, gauges, steering wheel, door sills, door panels, door hardware, bucket seats, seat belts, carpeting, shifter, pedals, rear panels and rear seats. The rear seat folds flat for extra space. Some custom interior features include a newer style steering column, blue dash gauge lights, Autometer RPM gauge and “Bullitt” carpeted floor mats. It has a custom center console with cup holders and storage compartment. It also has modern Mustang radio with Kenwood speakers located in the kicker panels. Everything in the interior is in working condition with exception of the horn because of the later model steering column. When you’re sitting in the interior of this car it feels like your sitting in a new car back in 1967!
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many tasteful upgrades. The cowl area and inner fender rails are in excellent condition unlike many other Mustangs from this generation. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support were painted black. The car is powered by a rebuilt 302 V8 that runs excellent. It was completely rebuilt with a stock bore, stock pistons and roller cam. The engine was completely balanced after it was rebuilt. It’s been dressed to appear like an original 289 with an Edlebrock Performer 289 Intake, Cobra 289 valve covers and chrome air cleaner with a 289 decal. The engine is coupled to a new T-5 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This transmission was purchased new and was delivered in a crate. The power is transferred to the rebuilt Ford 8” open rear end with 3.25 gears.
The undercarriage of this car is also highly detailed throughout. It is definitely nice enough to put mirrors underneath at a car show. During the restoration the floors were painted with the factory correct red oxide paint which was lighted covered with the green body color overspray.
A new Greenlight Collectibles 1:18 scale 1968 Ford Mustang GT – Steve McQueen Bullitt car with 1:18 Steve McQueen figure is included.
