Ireland women's basketball team refrained from the customary handshake with their Israeli opponents during their EuroBasket 2025 qualifier in Riga, Latvia on Thursday.
This decision came after allegations of anti-Semitism were made by Israeli player, Dor Saar, which were published on official Israeli Basketball Association media channels.
Basketball Ireland lodged a complaint with FIBA Europe in response to these accusations, informing them that their players would not be participating in traditional pre-match rituals with Israeli teams due to the “inflammatory” nature of the comments.
