Mr. Richey explains the origins of the Romantic movement as a rebellion against the values of the Enlightenment and the ugliness of the Industrial Revolution. The Romantics offered a critique of progress as defined by technological advancement and luxury. The works of Romantic authors, such as Oliver Goldsmith, Mary Shelley, and William Blake are discussed in the context of Romantic values.
