Once people get themselves onto a Toll road for the first time in China, they might have trouble getting in the right lane to get off.

The first problem is that the automated system for Tolls in China is called "ETC" which is confusing for westerners as it infers "everyone".

DO NOT GO INTO THESE LANES, GO INTO THE OUTSIDE LANE.

The inverted Y and an I is the characters for "other people"... and this manual lane is the one that will enable you to pass over the plastic card you received at the start of the Toll Road, be told the price and then pay with your AliPay or Wechat payment display of a payment code.

Keep in mind that toll roads are relatively expensive in China, but well worth it! as the roads are first rate quality and frequently have few cars / trucks on them.

Fun Fact about Toll Roads is that they are FREE on national holiday days! That's great, but expect them to be crowded.

Other days, you might be the only car in sight for minutes at a time - and a great opportunity to relax and / or travel at the top speed you feel is right for you... BUT don't speed!
