In this video we will be modifying a smoke alarm to act as a motion sensor alarm, and we use Arduino to help us along. If you are looking for beginner projects and are interested in Arduino motion sensors and home security projects, perhaps this is a great place to start! In this video we use Arduino Uno but Arduino Nano would be useful for a smaller overall footprint. I purchased a cheap, and at the time $4.99, KIDDE smoke alarm to turn into a cheap Arduino motion activated detector. Aside from soldering 2 wires to the circuit board of the smoke alarm, the only other step that may slow down beginner projects is programming the Arduino in IDE software. I will post the code for this project on the Facebook page and you'll find it to be simple and straight forward. So, if you're interested in hacking a smoke alarm to make your own Arduino motion sensor alarm...give it a shot! Who knows, maybe this will be the first of many videos about hacking home electronics and toys.
