After Vijay Anand started a big film Rajput, he then started a bigger film, Ek Do Teen Chaar which was produced by Hema Malini's mother Mrs. Jaya Chakravorty. This film was launched with a lot of fanfare, but for unknown reason this film wasn't made.

Goldie launched this multistarer movie Ek Do Teen Chaar in the year 1979 after the release of Des Pardes. Vijay Anand was also making big films at that time like Ram Balram & Rajput.

In the year 1979, besides Ek Do Teen Chaar in the same year another film with Dev Anand, Rishi Kapoor and Tina Munim was shelved and the film was Mahesh Bhatt's Ab Meri Baari, the shooting was going on, suddenly it stopped. Later after nearly 25 years Dev Anand and Rishi Kapoor came together in Love At Times Square.

With big projects like Rajput, Ram Balram & Ek Do Teen Chaar on his hands, Vijay Anand was very busy, he had to refuse to direct Dostana as producer Yash Johar wanted. Then Raj Khosla directed the film.

Vinod Khanna was signed for Vijay Anand's Ek Do Teen Chaar but later dropped out due to his retirement decision. Shashi Kapoor was signed to replace him.
