iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6 - Touch ID (First vs Second Generation)
What is going on guys Apple Fox here and this time I decided to do something a little different. In todays video I decided to show you or to compare the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. The latest and greatest against his predecessor. The Touch ID first generation vs Touch ID second generation. Well this video might help you in case you're deciding between iPhone with first generation or second generation Touch ID. Or maybe you have an older iPhone and want to know if it's worth the upgrade.
Generally speaking, the newer iPhones have second generation and the earlier models have the older, first gen. But that is not completely true, because the iPhone SE, despite the fact that it's come out when there was already an iPhone 6s featuring the second generation Touch ID, the SE is stil stuck with the first gen. Just so you know.
So we know that the second gen is generally faster than the first, but how much is it? Is it even comparable? Or is the update really needed? I like iPhones with smaller display, but those don't have the second generation Touch ID, do I need to go for the bigger models? Well these are the questions I will try to answer throughout the video. So let's get started.
But first let's better recap which models feature the first and which the second gen. So the iPhone 5s, 6, 6 plus and iPhone SE possess the first, older generation. While the iPhone 6s, 6s plus, 7 and of course 7 plus feature the second generation of Touch ID
So I'm having here the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7, the iPhone 6 you can tell by the FC CE labels and the iPhone 7 has no headphone jack of course. The iPhone 6 is going to be on the left and the iPhone 7 on the right during the entire video.
So as a first thing let's get to the iPhone 6 and set up Touch ID for my left thumb. My thumbs are pretty identical, I mean the is no difference between them so, you don't have to worry about the result being different because of this.
The iPhone 7 is already set up, I will again be using the thumb, for the iPhone 7 it is going to be the right one.
Before we get into it, let's clear the multi tasking pages of both iPhones. I don't really think that the difference would be that big, if I hadn't done it but just for sure.
I'm having the "Rest Finger to Unlock" turned on on both iPhones, meaning that I do not have to click the home button to get inside the actual phone. All I have to do is to place finger on the home button and the Touch ID sensor will read it.
So let's start the first round. I'm on the lockscreen and we're starting 3,2,1. Well as I expected, the iPhone 7 was faster there.
Let's do this again, in 3,2,1. Pretty much the same thing where the second generations beats the first one.
Let's go to the third round, I'll try to be as accurate as I can, but again the iPhone 6 lost the battle.
So we know the second generation is faster, that is what we were expecting basically but how much faster it actually is? In order to see it better, I'm about to do one more thing. I'm going to measure exactly how long both of these phones manage to unlock.
So while unlocking one phone I’ll be using the second one to measure the exact time using stopwatch. I’m not sure how accurate that will be but I will do my best.
So let’s start in here, let’s go and as you can see I paused the video in order for you to see how long it took, so it took about 1.1 second on the iPhone 7. It’s always better to perform it at least twice and this time the result is almost the same.
Now let’s move on the iPhone 6 with the first generation Touch ID and do the same and as you can see it slower but the difference is only like half second or even less. Doing this again has confirmed it and this time it is at 1.53 seconds, so it’s slower than iPhone 7.
So that would be it about it for today if I had to say which is better, the first or second, I would definitely go for the second generation but there’s no problem with living with the first generation of Touch ID, even though it is a little slower but that’s definitely not a huge difference. So thank you so much for watching, hope you enjoyed and see you next time.
