Super glue is the hero of small repair jobs but if you accidentally get it on your clothes or other fabrics, it can be hard to remove. Follow our step-by-step guide to remove super glue from fabric, particularly your clothes!
You will need:
● Acetone
● A clean cloth
● Safety goggles
● Rubber gloves
● Apron
● A plastic bag
● Your freezer
How to remove super glue from clothes – a step-by-step guide:
Option 1: Seize the moment
● If your superglue is still wet, you can treat it with acetone - but remember, safety first.
● You’ll need to put on safety goggles, rubber gloves and an apron – we don’t want any more accidents.
● You may want to do a patch test first on a concealed area of fabric and check the label - acetone isn’t suitable for acetate, triacetate or modacrylic.
● Flip your garment inside out, tip some acetone onto a clean cloth and dab at the reverse side of the superglue mark for a couple of minutes.
● Then wash and dry your garment as normal.
Option 2: Freeze!
● If your superglue is dry, place your garment in a suitable bag and put it in the freezer overnight.
● Remove your garment from the freezer and prise off the superglue.
● Then wash in the washing machine and dry your garment as normal.
Tip: It’s important not to rush the drying process. Do not dry your garment in high heat such as a tumble dryer as this can set the super glue stain into the fabric if it isn’t completely removed in the washing machine.
