The impossible railway... Follow me to explore the "Semmeringbahn", the railway that was declared impossible to build and operate and still today, 170 years later is a great success!!!

As a matter of fact it was the first mountain railway ever built. Back then it was crucial to connect the Austro-Hungarian empire... Vienna in the North with Trieste in the South. Only problem, get it over the Semmering mountain pass. Even though there where no available trains that could actually go across the mountains the trust in the technological progress was so great that they started to build the railway line anyway - just being sure that by the completion there would be trains available for use! And, they actually did it!

170 years later now a new technological marvel is about to be built, an amazing tunnel under the mountain, replacing the famous and impressive old line.
