Torrevieja sits approximately 30 miles south of Alicante Airport and has a population of around 104,000 (2008). Although the figures do swell during tourism season. Torrevieja was originally a fishing and salt mining village. It sits between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Salinas), which give Torrevieja a healthy microclimate.
With over 1,000 bars and a strong multi national population there is plenty going on throughout the year for both tourists and locals. Torrevieja also receives over 300 days of sunshine every year.
