Sorry for being late with this one! Posted this a week later than I should, so not sure how many will watch it but for whoever's reading this...
Today is April 9, and 1 year ago today was the day we were up there in terrible winds and we didn't see a great sunrise. But this year, it was better! On March 31st 2024, we got up early in the morning at 4 AM to go to Stone Mountain for the sunrise service. That way, we could get ahead of the crowd of people that would soon be there. When we arrived, it didn't feel that windy from the ground, just cold. So I was hoping it would not be like April 9th last year (that was the sunrise service of 2023 and the winds were horrible). So we went up to the top on the skyride. When we got to the top, it didn't take long to realize it was going to be windy again! I think it was a little less windy than 2023, but still very windy and super cold. At first the sky was dark. Then, as minutes went by, dawn broke and colors started to appear on the horizon. The camera could only capture the start of the colors in pictures, not very well in video. It was very cold so we decided to go into the building to warm up for a bit.
When we walked back out around 7 AM, the sky had brightened up a lot more. It was getting closer to sunrise every minute. The colors were beautiful!
Then, despite the weather app saying the sun would rise at 7:25 AM, I saw it starting to appear on the horizon at about 7:23 AM, just as I zoomed on the horizon. It progressed fast. The shape of the sun during sunrise is what I thought was most interesting. It was like sun was distorted and layers kept appearing and stacking up in a mirage. It was an amazing thing to watch! In 2022 it wasn't like that and 2023 clouds blocked it. This one was amazing to watch!
After sunrise, it started to get cloudy and was still windy. We went back down on the skyride. What a great experience it was despite the wind!
Sorry for the blurriness of this video, the video wasn't originally this blurry. Even when watching at the highest quality it looks blurry. Youtube made it really hard to add the soundtracks and I had to save one after another and every time it took hours. When it was finally done it had made the video quality worse. The video doesn't look as good as I intended it to be, but hope whoever watched it enjoyed it. Please check out my other sunrise videos too, I love sunrises and sunsets but my sunrise videos are my least popular videos.
