The FX-4CR is a sweet little HF + 6m SDR transceiver with 20 watts output, internal sound card, bluetooth connectivity, etc. made by Yu, BG2FX. Given it's small size, there is no antenna tuner or internal battery, but I think my ATU-100 is actually bigger than the FX in terms of volume. The FX-4CR is an engineering marvel and I will say it's probably the nicest piece of electronics I have ever purchased.
These are in very short supply. I have had an order in with Yu since June for one of his units. But, there were dozens of sellers on eBay, AliExpress and even Banggood selling these things. It made little sense that Yu was backordered for months while there were a multitude of sellers selling them. The two FX Facebook groups had a few consistent themes, don't buy from anybody but Yu because there is something wrong with the sellers, they are not authorized, you won't get support, the radio will be gutted, it's the older March version, it's marked up by the resellers, it's refurbished, etc.
This made no sense to me so I decided to test out any of the hearsay the experts were warning everybody about on the Facebook groups. So, facts: I have had an order in with Yu since June with no indication when he's going to deliver. I place an order with an AliExpress seller on August 20th and received it September 14th.
This is the unboxing video to show if any of the warnings are true or not.
One thing is certain, Yu is prioritizing his agents in China for available stock because I was able to cut my own position in line by using one of them. Secondly, I paid net, including the back to school coupon, my coins and bonuses, free shipping and NOT counting state sales tax a total of $410 versus Yu's direct to consumer price of $550.
