Here's the great Russian dancer, at 24 yrs-old, in his variation from The Little Humpbacked Horse. Music by Rodion Shchedrin, and choreography by Aleksandr Radunsky. I was so fortunate to take class alongside him two years after this film was made, making him just 26, when for 6 weeks I was allowed to take the Bolshoi Ballet's company classes when they were on tour to Los Angeles. He was my favorite male ballet dancer (even more than Nureyev) because his unaffected boyish charm, and spectacular technique seemed so natural and unforced.
