The smart lens, namely the trifocal lens, is the lens that has the ability to show the far, middle and near distances to the patient. In other words, the patient can easily see both the distance, the computer, the ipad ,phone distance and the distance to read a book without glasses after the surgery. It would be early to consider smart lens operation for patients between the ages of 41-46 who have only lost their near vision.
However, in this age group, smart lenses can be considered for patients with very high eye numbers, who cannot see far and near, and who do not have a chance to have a laser.
Smart lens can be a good option for patients after the age of 46 who have both distant and near vision problems and cannot use their glasses properly. Since cataract operation and smart lens operation are technically the same for patients with cataracts, a smart lens can be worn while the patient is undergoing cataract surgery. Thus, the patient gets rid of the need for close glasses after the surgery.
In recent years, new generation smart lenses, defined as EDOF, have also taken their place among our options. So which patients do we prefer them?
We especially prefer patients with retinal problems and diabetes. Because trifocal smart lenses are not preferred in patients with retinal disease and diabetes, we prefer new generation premium smart lenses.
In fact, it is correct to choose this lens according to the condition, age, profession and daily habits of each patient. Even the patient's arm and height are important. Even if the smart lens operation is considered as a simple operation, as in every surgery, the pre-examination, listening to our patient in detail, and detailed pre-examination. segment, posterior segment examinations are the most important.
