To measure amperage or current with a multimeter, begin by plugging the black probe into the COM lead and the red probe into the A or mA probe, depending on what you are trying to measure. When in doubt, use the higher amperage port to be safe. Now, switch to the amperage mode on your multimeter. On many models, this will have a A or mA symbol.
