Continental style is also known as German style, European style, or "picking".

Written instructions:
1. With the yarn in back insert right needle into first stitch on left needle from left to right
2. Slide first stitch from left needle off the needle, keeping it on the right needle
3. With yarn in back insert right needle into first stitch on left needle from right to left
4. Slide first stitch from left needle off the needle, keeping it on the right needle
5. With yarn in back, insert left needle into the front of the two slipped stitches on the right needle from left to right
6. Wrap working yarn around right needle from under the needle
7. Slip right needle back through the two slipped stitches, keeping working yarn on needle
8. Slide slipped stitches from left needle off, single new knit stitch remains on right needle (decreases 1 stitch)
