San Antonio de Areco was founded in 1730. It has been declared city of historic national interest by the Argentine Government.
The city has bars, restaurants, museums, parks and churches that preserve and showcase the area's rich heritages, and remarkable gaucho culture. The city appears peaceful, relaxed, comfortable and close-knit.
The parish of San Antonio de Padua and the Museo Gauchesco Ricardo Güiraldes are two of the city's great attractions.
Each year in November, the city holds the Día de la Tradición (Tradition Day) gaucho celebration.
