The author and American Protestant pastor Norman Vincent Peale (May 31, 1898 – December 24, 1993) is most known for spreading the idea of positive thinking, particularly through his top-selling book The Power of Positive Thinking (1952). Beginning in 1932, he was the pastor of Marble Collegiate Church in New York, where he oversaw the Reformed Church in America congregation for more than 50 years before retiring in 1984. He had a long career as a writer, editor, and presenter for radio and television in addition to his work from the pulpit.Even though he occasionally opposed clergy involvement in politics, he nevertheless had some dubious affiliations with politically active groups in the late 1930s. He also got involved with national political candidates and their campaigns, having an impact on some of them, including President Richard Nixon.
