At yesterday's General Audience, the Pope recalled the horror of the Shoah on the eve of the 76th Holocaust Remembrance Day, celebrated today. On 29 July 2016, Pope Francis walked with bowed head, in an emotionally charged silence, through the Nazi extermination camp at Auschwitz. At the end of his visit, he left these written words as a sign: "Lord, have mercy on your people. Lord, forgive for such cruelty!"
