The Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan following a rapid offensive. They were last in power between 1996 and 2001, before being overthrown by US-led forces. The reason the United States got involved was because the Taliban were accused for providing a sanctuary for the prime suspects of the September 11 attacks in America.
