The United Nations says it has yet to receive a formal request after Ukraine revealed it would appeal for international peacekeepers to be deployed in the country's volatile East.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's call comes hours after his military suffered major losses in the town of Debaltseve at the hands of Russian separatists, forcing thousands of Ukrainian soldiers to flee.
