Over two-thousand artists have gathered in Colombia's capital Bogota for the Fifth Iberoamerican Theatre Festival.
For two weeks the city will host close to 500 artistic events including theatre, dance, and music - by artists from all over the world.
An exuberant crowd chanted along during the festival's kick-off parade Friday.
Elaborately dressed artists danced down the streets of the capital Bogota while music filled the air. Specially invited costumed groups - known as comparsas - were among the participants.
The crowd joined the artists dancing in the streets to the rhythmic sounds of drums.
Artists from five continents and 31 countries will perform before more than 1 (m) million spectators in this festival which transforms Bogota into a world artistic centre for two weeks.
Organizers of the Fifth Iberoamerican Theatre Festival have lined up over 400 events.
"The Odyssey," presented by Footsbarn Traveling of France, or "Verona," a contemporary Romeo and Juliet set in Sarajevo and presented by an Australian theatre group, are just two of the choices.
Ballets from Mexico and Africa will be on hand for special performances, while an Internet cafe will hold seminars and workshops.
Street mime, clowns, and children's theatre will also figure prominently.
Among the countries represented are England, Romania, Ireland, Australia, Argentina, the US, Israel, Lithuania, Colombia, Cuba, and the Czech Republic.
The festival runs until 7th April.
