The rocket puts one of the Ludi Tance 1B satellite into orbit, the launch was a complete success.
This is the second satellite of a pair of radar surveillance satellites, the purpose is to monitor surface targets.
The Ludi Tance 1 pair has Synthetic Aperture Radar technology, the two can create a virtual antenna achieving high resolution imaging.
SAR satellite is widely used achieving high resolution imaging, however using a pair of satellites is still relatively new.
It can perform day or night, and can penetrate clouds, even tree cover, collecting both amplitude and phase data.
The Ludi Tance 1 pair will orbit the Earth in a sun-synchronous LEO polar orbit.
The rocket and satellite used in this mission are developed by the Eighth Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics of China.
The pair’s purpose is geological survey, disaster monitoring, but military missions would be a main consideration.
This is the 408th Long March rocket mission, and the first one after lunar new year.
