A SPECTACULAR REBUILD ON LAMBTON-KINGSWAY PARK
Originally built in the mid-1940’s, this house was one of the original houses built alongside the Shale Pit, or what is now known as Lambton-Kingsway Park. Lovingly owned by only four families throughout the years, the latest incarnation of this house is arguably the best.
Set far back from Prince Edward Drive N, this house can barely be seen from the street when the world is in full bloom. With an incredibly beautiful retaining wall built from original Humber River stone, the house commands a spectacular, and brand-new, facade. Set on a massive 65′ x 155′ lot, siding onto Lambon-Kingsway park, this “unicorn” causes many to stop and stare.
Purchased by the current owners in 2018, the house was completely gutted to the studs and rebuilt in 2019. Everything in the house is brand new, save the exterior stone and brick and framing. A new asphalt roof, new HVAC, new a/c, new drywall, new doors and windows, new Cape Cod siding, new insulation…everything was rebuilt from the ground up in 2019. At this time, a brand new large and deep garage was built and attached to the house as well as the creation of a new paver-lined asphalt driveway, interlocking stone drainage section, and front gardens.
The kitchen boasts modern matte white cabinetry and black wrought iron hardware. From the Bosch appliances (integrated dishwasher, induction cooktop, wall oven, and combination microwave/convection oven) to the full-sized stainless steel refrigerator and freezer, this kitchen functions beautifully with all cooks in mind. The counters are “Calcatta Nuvo” Caesarstone and the sink is an extra-large Blanco silgranite beauty. The floors throughout the main and second floor are gorgeous, satin-finished white oak. The very large dining room features three huge picture windows with views of the incredible tree canopy and side and backyards. There is a gas fireplace to cozy up to and a custom frosted glass “globe” chandelier in the middle of the room. Not to be missed is the wall of built-in cabinetry beside the fireplace.
In 2022, the current owners added an additional 1000 sq ft above the new garage. This addition created a huge new living/family room and an additional primary suite. The new living room features dramatic 10′ ceilings, a Valor gas fireplace with black matte leathered marble, and an antique pine mantel. The floors are the same satin-finished white oak hardwood as the rest of the house. There are three Tom Dixon silver mirrored pendant lights in the centre of the room and a large, hidden storage closet below the stairs. The oversized windows have black-out automated solar blinds offering complete privacy and darkness for use as a home theatre.
The new primary suite offers an abundance of functional storage in custom cabinetry by Rosedale Kitchens. The 4-piece ensuite is large and nautical in theme, with a double vanity, black-knurled faucets, and a huge illuminated mirror. The tree-top space is calm and serene and a perfect private hideaway to be used as a bedroom, an office, an in-law suite, or an older child’s room.
The original second floor was opened up to the rafters, so the ceilings are high and the space is luxurious. Two bedrooms mirror one another with Modern Fan Co.’s ceiling fans, walls of built-in cabinetry, and gorgeous new windows with custom solar-shade blinds. There is another full primary suite on this level, featuring two excellent walk-in closets, high ceilings, a ceiling fan, and a 4-piece ensuite with heated floors. Not to be missed (but did you miss it??) is a hidden laundry “room” on this floor – with the stacked Samsung washer/dryer hidden in a closet and a large built-in cabinet housing all the laundry supplies and a perfect place for folding and organizing.
The lower level features a full walk-out to the private driveway. The existing garage was turned into a fabulous rec room with a Restoration Hardware wall unit and tv and HUGE picture window and a new exterior glass door. Three large closets act as a “mudroom” of sorts, for easy entry and exit and storage of all coats, boots, shoes etc. The basement features durable carpet tile throughout as well as pot lights. There is one more bedroom with built-in cabinetry, an electric fireplace, and two above-grade windows as well.
The front yard is gracious and large with full gardens running along the north and south boundaries. There is an irrigation system that runs through the lawn and the north garden as well. The backyard features a brand new composite deck (2022) with a built-in hot tub (2022) and walks down to a flagstone patio. The privacy of the backyard is matched only by the drama of the incredible mature tree canopy – it is truly a thing of beauty and not something to be found in most houses.
This house must be seen in person to truly be experienced. It’s a unique and special place and a magical place to raise a family.
