STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that Moscow needs to beef up its military because of the “proxy war” unleashed by the West against Russia.
“It’s linked with the war, the proxy war waged by the countries of the collective West,” Peskov said in a call with reporters.
He said Defence Ministry proposals announced in December to move the draft age for Russian men to serve in the military for one year were being "worked on".
The spokesman also said the possibility of a meeting between Russian Foreign Intelligence Service director Sergey Naryshkin and CIA director William J. Burns could not be excluded.
