When I bought my HZJ80 from the original owners, a lovely retired couple, it had a DTS turbo fitted. However, the turbo was very slow to spool with the boost rising in time with revs. I took it to Murray at Specialised Automotive in Bega, NSW for a dyno tune. Murray's expertise and level of service are second to none. The injector pump timing was off and it was drastically under-fuelled.
After Murray worked his magic, peak power had risen from 42.2 kw to 65.5 kw at all 4 wheels. Peak torque was up from 118 nm to 183 nm at all 4 wheels. The torque curve is flatter and broader and the engine response has been transformed.
Peak outputs are still low for a 4.2 litre turbo. However, this is not a performance vehicle, it's a truck. It now keeps up with traffic with peak boost of 13 psi. However, I rarely push it hard, generally driving it to keep boost at 10 psi and exhaust gas temps to 500 degrees c (post turbo) max.
