Your Lycoming 0320 Ed2 Engine Overhaul: What you need to know.
I recently overhauled my Lycoming 0320 E2D and it took exactly three months from the time I dropped the engine off in Fort Lauderdale till the time I did my break in flight. I was involved in every step of the process.

The first thing I will tell you to do is research. Be wise! I used Airmark engine overhaul in Fort Lauderdale Fl. I was thrilled with their service and the outcome. I highly recommend them. I was involved as much as I could be, and calling them to stay on top of the process as much as I could.
Now a note on upgrading to an Lycoming IO360 from an O320 E2D. Do even more research, you will need an STC and this can get very complicated. I was planning on upgrading my engine in my 1968 Cardinal, but at the end of the day, everything from the firewall forward was going to have to be replaced and it was cost prohibitive.

You want to go with a top shop because you need a warranty. If you get a local mechanic to do it, it may be cheaper but if it goes sideways you are stuck. And things happen, you need a large company to stand behind their work. This is also a project that needs to be done right, not cheap or on the cheapo. You a re making a major investment in your life really, and safety is a top priority. You need a licensed FAA repair station that has all of their I’s dotted and their T’s crossed.
