Produced by Simon Rubin (siru@dtu.dk). DTU Wind and Energy Systems operates some of the most advanced test and research facilities in the world. researchers and companies can test everything from nano-scale materials, large scale structures to full demonstration of turbines before they enter the market.
Introducing three of our flagship facilities:
The Poul La Cour Tunnel is the largest university owned Wind Tunnel in the world. The fan is driven by a 2.4 MW motor, giving winds of about 378 km/h – similar to three times a hurricane.
The Large Scale Facility is a 1560 m2 hall with three test stands capable of testing up to 50 meter blades. Advanced structural tests and loading of turbine blades are performed, providing accurate data about strength, reliability and fatigue.
Test centre Østerild is located at the west-coast of northern Jutland. The facility has some of the best wind conditions in the world allowing manufacturers to test turbines before they enter the market.
