First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral, Sir Tony Radakin said he was "immensely saddened" by the news, and that he would be "deeply missed".

Philip's death was announced on Friday by Buckingham Palace and was followed by tributes by heads of state and international figures worldwide.

He spent 14 years as a serving naval officer before stepping down, but remained active in the promotion of the Royal Navy in the form of charity patronages.
