A group of youth from the national youth council have filled a petition challenging section 12 2 (b) of the local government act and Article 183 (2), 108 (4) of the constitution which put an age limit to the people who should stand for the position of president, Vice president and Councillors.
The petitioners through their lawyers Mwebesa and co- advocates this morning served the attorney general saying that the provisions contravenes the supreme law in the land while some of them are inconsistent with the constitution.
The local government act put the age limit for standing for local district leaders at between 30 - 75 years while for the constitution put the age limit for the presidency at between 35-75 years.
