⭐️ Where are the world's richest mosaic collections?
Did you know, the world's largest and richest mosaic collections are in Turkey?
These mosaics came from two ancient cities.
One of them was a strategic crossing point on the Silk Road, a military and a religious city. It was home to the senior administrators and officers of the Roman Empire. It became so rich that the residents of the city reflected their wealth on the architecture of their houses. This ancient city is Zeugma.
The other was a city that became the eastern administrative center of the Roman Empire. The riches of the East were gathered there. This wealth was reflected into their villas. And this ancient city is Antioch.
Mosaics found in these cities are on display at two new museums; the Zeugma Mosaic Museum and the Hatay Archeology Museum.
