Putin has said that Russia is able to send natural gas through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that was not damaged by the recent sabotage. With the European energy crisis crippling the German economy will Germany take him up on his offer? The price of natural gas piped into Germany is far cheaper than LNG shipped into Europe.
The Nord Stream 2 Pipeline is actually two separate pipes each with 27.5 Billion Cubic Meters (bcm) capacity per year. One of those lines is undamaged from the sabotage and can start sending natural gas now.
The problem is that Nord Stream 2 was never certified by Germany for operation. Germany cancelled the certification when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Even with this offer for much cheaper gas to get its citizens and industry through the winter, Germany said that they will refuse Putin's offer for gas through the Nord Steam Pipeline.
