Healey shakes up MBTA leadership as slow zones, delays enrage riders. Will her picks fix the T?
Gov. Maura Healey has appointed the state's first chief safety officer for the Department of Transportation, Patrick Lavin. The governor also replaced three members of the MBTA's board of directors, after hearing from enraged riders at the latest meeting, with a slew of complaints for delays, limited service, and especially the slow zones still in place across much of the system. Brian Kane, executive director of the MBTA Advisory board and Mela Bush-Miles, head of the T Riders Union, joined Crystal Haynes to discuss the problems riders shared, and what the state is doing to fix them.
‘When Black people do it, it’s a problem’: Local runners on racial profiling at '23 Boston Marathon
Two local, predominantly Black running groups say they were racially profiled at the 2023 Boston marathon and are now calling on Newton town leaders to do better. Aliese Lash and Frances Ramirez are co-captains of one of those groups, The Pioneers Run Crew, and they joined Crystal to share their experiences at the marathon and in the predominantly white running community in Boston.
