For too long the church has missed, if not intentionally abandoned its Jewish roots. Jesus was a Jewish rabbi who kept the sabbath and feasts. In fact he observed a Passover Seder with his disciples at the last supper.
"Do this in remembrance of me" wasn't just a random saying—but one rooted in the rhythms of the Passover seder meal. Intimately connected to the four cups of wine and the bread that signified his body broken and blood poured out for us.
Was he perhaps saying to celebrate the Passover Seder in remembrance of Him? Perhaps. But at the very least, we miss out on this richness if we fail to embrace the Jewishness of Jesus the Messiah.
