Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been indicted for allegedly insulting the monarchy in a newspaper interview in 2015. Prosecutors said they have enough evidence to press charges against Mr Thaksin, but he did not show up to hear those charges. His lawyers claimed he fell ill with COVID-19. The prosecutor's office has granted a postponement to 18 June, saying that it will change nothing about the case. Observers said the charge against Mr Thaksin is one of many ways to keep him and his faction in check. Saksith Saiyasombut reports.
