Usal
2 tbsp oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
3 garlic cloves & 1 inch ginger (crushed)
1 medium size onion (finely chopped)
1 tsp salt
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
½ tsp jeera powder
1 tsp coriander powder
¼ tsp garam masala powder
1 cup of mixed legumes and pulses
Preparation
Wash & soak the legumes (usal) for atleast 3-4 hrs.
In a pressure cooker take 2 tbs oil and after its heated, add ½ tsp mustard seeds & ½ cumin seeds.
Then add 3 garlic cloves & 1-inch ginger (crushed) and fry.
Then add 1 medium size onion (finely chopped) and fry until its light brown.
Then add 1 medium size tomato finely chopped followed by salt.
Add the dried spices (½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder, ½ tsp jeera powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, ¼ tsp garam masala powder and fry it well .
Then add the mixed legumes and pulses and give 3 whistles.
Let the pressure cooker cool down and then open.
If its not cooked then take another 1-2 whistles.
