As 2023 marks 50 years since the start of Japan-ASEAN relations, both Japan and ASEAN are making efforts to strengthen cooperation to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. This webinar invites experts from Japan, Southeast Asia, and beyond to discuss the future prospects of Japan-ASEAN relations from a historical and broad perspective, drawing on the historical analysis in Professor Taizo Miyagi's book, Japan's Quest for Stability in Southeast Asia (Routledge, 2018).

Professor Rory Medcalf AM FAIIA is Head of the National Security College (NSC) at the Australian National University. He is a member of the Board of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, the ASEAN Regional Forum Register of Experts and Eminent Persons, the Scientific Advisory Council of the Finnish Institute for International Affairs, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (FAIIA)
Ms. Sharon Seah (Senior Fellow; Coordinator, ASEAN Studies Centre; Coordinator, Climate Change in Southeast Asia Programme)
Ms Sharon Seah is Senior Fellow and Coordinator of ASEAN Studies Centre and the Climate Change in Southeast Asia Programme at the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute. Prior to academia, Ms Seah spent fifteen years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Environment Agency of Singapore.
