The Queensland government is demanding transparency from major supermarkets over claims they are overcharging for locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Premier Steven Miles has requested a meeting with supermarket chief executives, saying there is a widening disparity between the prices farmers receive and what customers pay for their goods.
Agriculture Minister Murray Watt says the issue has been long-running, prompting the federal government last year to review the food and grocery code.
Mr Miles says Queensland families are owed transparency by retailers, noting their increased profits during the heightened cost of living.
This comes as farmers in the state threatened a walkout as they claim supermarkets are not paying them a fair price for their produce.
