Perhaps one of the most famous hikes within Gros Morne National Park, Tablelands is actually the reason Gros Morne is more than just a national park, and why it makes it to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The landscape of Tablelands is unlike any other in the park - and really the world. It's one of a few places on the globe where the mantle of the earth has pushed its way through the crust to the surface.
Because of its mineral contents, the soil actually rusts giving off this extreme color.
The tablelands trail is a 4 km trail that should only take about an hour to complete. This flat trail is a mix of dirt and boardwalk, with a stunning water feature at the end.
Being (perhaps) the most famous trail within the park, expect crowds. You may find the parking lot not big enough to hold all the cars. We went early in the day and had the entire place to ourselves - an amazing feeling.
Parks Canada offers free guided tours of this trail so you can learn more about the trail and this unique spot as you go. I would highly recommend going on one if you have the time.
