More than 560hp ready to be unleased!
The PEUGEOT 208 WRXs run by Team Peugeot Hansen and the Peugeot Hansen Academy have plenty of horses under the bonnet. Thanks to the discipline’s relatively unbridled technical regulations, rallycross supercars are bred to deliver exceptional performance. It takes the PEUGEOT 208 WRX only slightly more than two seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100kph!
To allow the drivers to get away to such lightning-fast starts, the PEUGEOT 208 WRX’s four-cylinder turbocharged engine pumps out more than 560 horsepower, to the delight of Timmy Hansen and Sébastien Loeb! Indeed, the engine was a particular focus of attention ahead of the 2016 World RX campaign, as Team Principal Kenneth Hansen explains: “We started out in 2014 with a car that was based on a rally car. For 2015, Peugeot Sport prepared a car built specifically for rallycross and, for this season, the engineers worked more on the engine.”
It is obviously important to be able to transmit all this power to the ground efficiently without resorting to traction control systems which are banned in rallycross. The PEUGEOT 208 WRX benefits from four-wheel drive and a carefully engineered suspension system developed in association with the damper brand, Öhlins. The suspension is a particularly crucial part of the car because all the circuits comprise two types of surface, dirt and asphalt.
