On June 13 1977, during the early morning hours, 3 young girl scout campers were dragged from their tent and brutally murdered at Camp Scott in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
The police caught the man they thought to be responsible, a Cherokee man named Gene Leroy Hart. Hart was an escaped prisoner with a dark past, and he would continue to evade police for 10 months before he was captured. What followed was a messy trial and a quick innocent verdict.
The case remains unsolved to this day.
