Bone Marrow Transplant Donor

Recently I decided to look into what I could do to make a difference to those living with cancer. This is where Be The Match, bone marrow transplant donation comes in. I found BeTheMatch www.bethematch.org and began looking into bone marrow donation and bone marrow transplant. After doing some research I decided that Be The Match was something simple and yet profound that I could do to make a difference to someone with cancer. I received my kit to be added to the bone marrow registry and realized it is a very simple swab to be added to the national marrow donor program. Very easy! I honestly thought I'd need to give blood just to be tested. I knew and honestly still know only a little about the stem cell donation process or blood marrow donation process. BMT is certainly something I can do! I just wasn't sure how to donate bone marrow. Cancer is of course an awful thing and if there is something, even small that I can do to help someone through cancer I am on board. #bethematch for someone with cancer! Being a blood cancer donor is something I can do.

Have you been a recipient of a bone marrow transplant? Have you donated bone marrow or stem cells? I'd love to hear experiences from both those that have received bone marrow and those who have donated bone marrow (bmt).

While it breaks my heart that there is cancer and that there is even a need for bone marrow donation and bone marrow transplants - it does exist and if I have the opportunity to help save someone's life by donating bone marrow I'd love to make that happen.
