Gourami Fish Male And Female Identification
If you have a gold, opaline, blue, moon light or paradise gourami, then you will be very easy to determine the sex of this type of gourami.
Whem they are young, it is quite difficult to identify the difference between male and female.
1.Dorsal Fin
The dorsal (top) fin is the most distinctive difference that can be seen between males and females.
The dorsal fin of male gouramis comes to a point, creating a distinct v-shape.
The dorsal fin of the female is shorter and rounded, creating a distinct U-shape.
2.Body Shape
In general, males have slimmer, more angular bodies than the females, which are usually more rounded.
You can usually see this difference best when viewing the side of the fish.
Females have a rounded belly compared to the males specially when they are carrying eggs.
3. Body Size and Color
Male Gouramis are usually a bit smaller than the females and they are slimmer in overall girth. Female gouramis are usually less colorful than male gouramis.
4. Bubble Nests
When these fish decide to breed, males construct nests made out of bubbles. Only the males of the species able to do this.
So whenever you see a fish is blowing bubbles into the corner of your aquarium then you'll know it's a male.
