On January 5, 1477, Charles led an army against the forces of the Swiss Confederation in the Battle of Nancy, which took place near the city of Nancy, in present-day France.
During the battle, Charles's troops were outnumbered and faced fierce resistance from the Swiss forces. Charles, known for his bold and impulsive nature, personally led a charge against the enemy. However, he became separated from his main force and found himself isolated and surrounded by Swiss soldiers.
In the chaos of the battle, Charles was unhorsed and fell to the ground. Despite his efforts to fight off his attackers, he was overwhelmed and killed. His body was later found on the battlefield, stripped of armor and robbed of his valuables.
The death of Charles the Bold marked the end of the Burgundian dynasty and the expansionist ambitions of the Duchy of Burgundy. His demise had significant political repercussions, as his territories were eventually divided between France and the Habsburgs.
