In the 2024 General Election, a record 642 million Indians cast their votes, with an increase in female participation. Yet, despite extensive efforts by the Election Commission, no constituency in Punjab reached the ambitious 70% voter turnout target. Bathinda came closest with 69%, while Punjab's overall turnout stood at 62.80%.
This session delves into Punjab's electoral dynamics, analyzing voter turnout, the rise of regional identities, and the implications for national politics. With significant changes in vote share—Aam Aadmi Party (26.02%), BJP (18.53%), and Indian National Congress (26.3%)—we discuss what these shifts mean for the INC's future and the broader Indian political landscape.
Speakers:
• Devender Yadav - President, Delhi Congress Committee
Interviewer:
• Prabhu Guptara - Board consultant and Publisher, Pippa Rann Books
