(25 Mar 2014) Peruvian police on Monday arrested more than 60 tourists for taking part in what authorities describe as a wild party, allegedly involving drugs and alcohol.
Tourists were seen being detained by police at a compound - a cluster of illegally built homes - in the Sacsayhuaman archaeological site near Cusco.
The party was broken up by police after loud music and shouting were heard coming from the area, according to local media reports.
Authorities searched rooms in the compound and seized drugs including marijuana and paste used to make cocaine, according to a local police commander.
Tourists were seen being escorted out of the compound by police and authorities said the dwellings will be dismantled.
The majority of the group were Israeli nationals, according to local media reports.
Israeli media reports said eight Israeli tourists were held overnight by police in Peru after being arrested for archaeological theft and the alleged use of illegal drugs.
