Back and eye pain led to imaging studies that revealed a large tumor in 15-year-old Eva Simulcik's low back. In addition to causing pressure in her head, the tumor was compressing and surrounding nerves in her lower back. The use of electrophysiology monitoring enabled her surgical team to listen to the nerves and their function to ensure that her nerves were not harmed during the removal of the tumor. The delicate surgery was a success and Eva no longer day dreams of getting up and dancing to her favorite song as she did in the hospital. With the help of physical therapy -- she IS dancing!
