Mariner 10 was launched on November 3, 1973 and flew by Venus and Mercury. It was the first spacecraft to visit two planets and the first time gravity assist was applied. It was also the first time the same planet was visited three times. During its journey it made thousands of images of Venus and Mercury using TV cameras.
